• ABOUT AQUACULTURE

WHAT IS AQUACULTURE?

In broad terms Aquaculture is the breeding, rearing, and harvesting of fish, shellfish, algae, and other organisms in a water environment using controlled conditions. Also referred to as aquafarming, aquaculture can take place in salt water or freshwater.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AQUACULTURE?

The main benefit of aquaculture is the ability to control aspects of the aquaculture environment. When using aquaculture to grow fish and shellfish, the ability to control water temperature, the amount of light and the type and amount of food available can significantly impact the quality of product and speed of growth.

WHAT IS INTEGRATED MULTI-TROPHIC AQUACULTURE ?

Integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA)  is the integration of fish farming and aquatic plant farming. Using IMTA production techniques, uneaten feed and waste from one species can be converted into feed, fertilizers, and energy for another species.
